GAME Plan
The first goal that I would like to work on is inspiring students to learn. I know that many times they feel that the information is boring and they do not want to learn it. I have tried to present the information in different formats and yet the students still complain. Recently I have had a Promethean Board installed in my classroom. This has made using technology easier. The board is made to be interactive and with it being at the front of the room I am able to use it like a white board. I have developed lessons using the Promethean Board for subjects such as math that are interactive and have the students up moving around to use it. For social studies we have used it to take virtual field trips and in the future for science I would like to use it to do dissections and other labs. Along with the Promethean Board is the other goal I would like to work on. I would like to design more activities that use different forms of technology. In order to do that I need the opportunity to take classes to learn these things. One way that I have tried to improve is by attending lessons that are given at our school each Monday on different technologies. Each week there is a different topic for teachers to choose from such as streamlining and blogging. I am also working on a project that I want to start after the Christmas break that will allow me to set up blogs for my students to complete each week as well as other projects that will allow them to use technology instead of the same old writing report and creating a poster.

Rachael,
ReplyDeleteYou are really lucky to have weekly meetings where you are able to learn about different technologies. Is this something that is done by your administrators or is it a teacher based idea?
I am also working on the idea of incorporating blogs into my classes. So far, the students have resisted, but I am going to persevere!
It is also great that you are using the Promethian board to help the students become more involved in their classes. I haven't had the opportunity to use anything like this yet, but I do have access to SmartBoards-I need the opportunity to learn how to use it and research what I can do with it.
It sounds like you are on the right path to inspiring students.
Susan
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteOur school has “Technology Wednesday’s” where each week a different technology is demonstrated to teachers during their planning period in our media center. If we attend 12 sessions we are given a “Professional Learning Unit” which counts for Professional Development credit in our yearly goals. The sessions are also helpful to let us know what is available to use in our classrooms, items like streaming videos, SmartBoards, new grading systems, new digital cameras, etc.
This has been helpful to many teachers who are trying to “present the information in different formats”, just as you are. I think you are on the right track by making your goal to first inspire your students to learn, and then incorporate new technology into your lessons.
I currently teach at two different schools, one that has all new equipment and technology, the other does not. I believe that the students who have access to the newer equipment and technology are more eager to engage in the lessons even though the content taught is the same. The new equipment and technology just creates a whole different atmosphere and active process that holds their attention.
I too would like to use blogging in my classroom but, have hit a brick wall since my county has a block on all blogsites. I am currently trying to address this issue, so far it has been an uphill battle!
